In a recent announcement, Google said they are updating the experience section in the search console by removing page experience and mobile usability reports and upgrading HTTPS and Core Web Vitals reports.
Page Experience Report
Page experience is one of the ranking signals that Google uses to rank web pages on SERPs. Since it’s launched in 2021 the report was designed to track mobile pages, but with an update in the algorithm in 2022 it could track the desktop version of pages too.
And now in 2023, Google is removing it entirely from the search console. And no this is not because page experience is irrelevant or it has been removed from the ranking factors list.
But this may be due to providing more insights via other mediums like their official documents explaining page experience and how to use it to create helpful content.
Moreover, Google said they are going to transform the report into a new page that will link to general guidelines about page experience.
How to check page experience without the page experience report?
You can use page speed insights to get a detailed analysis of your website pages on their performance across the web so you can improve them.
Mobile Usability Report & Mobile-Friendly Testing Tool
From December 2023, the mobile usability report, mobile-friendly testing tool, and its API will be removed from the search console.
The mobile usability report and the testing tool were officially launched in 2016 after seeing the huge growth of mobile users.
And with time many other tools have emerged to evaluate the mobile usability of pages like the Lighthouse from Chrome.
Thus to remove this report and the testing tool from the search console was considered a better option.
How to check the mobile usability of webpages without the mobile usability report?
You can use the lighthouse report from Chrome or webpagetest.org. Both of these can give detailed insights into your web pages and ways to improve their performance.
So get ready to move away from these tools as you won’t be able to use them in the near future and start using their alternatives.
